What To Expect

Bo-Kaap
While on this tour. We will have the pleasure of making a quick stop at the famous brightly colored Bo-kaap. Formerly known as Malay quarter. Some of the oldest inhabitants of Bo-kaap reached the shores of Cape town in the 17th centuries as slaves from Malaysia and various Indonesian Islands and in this community is where their descendants thrives. Besides the colorful houses, Bo-kaap offers a lot more than what meets the eye. You will be able to walk around as well as take pictures while your guide unpacks the history of this national heritage site.

Castle of Good Hope
The Castle of of good hope is the oldest standing colonial building in South Africa. Spanning over 350 years. Taking a pentagonal shape, the castle was built as a fortress shortly after the settling of the Dutch at the Cape. Visitors get to to visit different compartments of the castle from former bakeries, governors quarters, prisons within the castle as well as torture chambers. At 9am everyday is a key ceremony as well as the firing of a canon depicting how guards at the castle were changed back in the days.

District Six Museum
District 6 museum is situated on “Buitenkant” street, the same street that determined the boundary between a white and nonwhite settlements during the years of Apartheid. The museum captures massively all the history about the forced removals in what was a vibrant multiracial community before the passing of the group areas act in 1950.

Company's Gardens
The historical company's garden is a leafy garden in the middle of the city center. The garden is a very nice place to walk around observing the reconstructed gardens to resemble a typical Dutch east India company garden at the cape over 200 years ago. Historical monuments are scattered all over the garden giving visitors a beautiful glance back into the past as well as great photo taking opportunities.

Noon Day Gun
The noon gun is also known as the Cape's clock. A canon that goes off at midday at the the signal hill every day except on a Sunday in commemoration of the hay day ways of communication. The noon gun reminds locals as well as visitors about how people on land used to communicate with sailors before the inventory of radio phones. A canon was blown to signal for the ships anchored at table bay that it was their turn to come and dock at the harbor. Visitors can drive up the signal hill and hear the history of the noon gun as well as witness the blowing of it that sends a loud bang across the entire city.
