What To Expect

Grabouw
This is a small town 65 km from Cape Town along the N2 freeway over Sir Lowry Pass from Somerset West. This is the commercial centre of the Elgin Valley, the largest single export fruit-producing area in Southern Africa.

It extends between the Hottentots- Holland, Kogelberg, Groenland and Houwhoek Mountains. The original inhabitants were the Khoikhoi pastoralists and the San hunter gatherers.

Elgin is a lush area of land surrounded by mountains in the Overberg region of South Africa. Situated about 70 km along the N2 freeway south-east of Cape Town just beyond the Hottentots Holland Mountains.

This is one of the more intensively farmed districts of South Africa and produces 60% of the national apple crop. Internationally known as "The place in South Africa where apples come from", of late it has also known to produce top quality cool wines because of the coolest climate of any region in the country.

Hence this region's wines and tourism have recently become significant part of the valley's economy.

Caledon
This is a town in the Overberg region in the Western Cape in South Africa and is located about 100 km east of Cape Town. Nearby is the mineral rich hot springs. It has a population which is estimated to be about less than 20 000 people.

It is also a town which is along the N2 freeway. This is mainly an agricultural region with most agricultural activities involving grain production and a certain amount of stock farming.

The town is locally known for the Caledon Spa and Casino, for its rolling hills and yellow canola fields in spring. The town has a Mediterranean climate of warm dry summers and cool wet winters.

Bredasdorp
Another very old town in the Southern Overberg region of the Western Cape province of South Africa. Lying about 160 km south-east of Cape Town it is only 35 km north of Cape Agulhas, the southern most tip of Africa.

The main attractions in this town are the Heuningberg Nature Reserve, many historical churches, art galleries and art and craft shops. Bredasdorp is also home to the shipwreck Museum which details about 150 wrecks along the nearby Agulhas Reef. It is the only museum of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.

Cape Agulhas - Southernmost Tip of Africa
The geographical southern tip of Africa and the beginning of the dividing line between the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans. Visit this iconic landmark and explore the rocky coastline which is very spectacular.

Explore the coastline which is gradually curving with rocky and sand beaches. Take a closer look at the survey marker and a new icon depicting the African continent located at the most southern tip of Africa. This is an idea location for a group photo or even a memorable selfie.

Take a walk on the shallow waters off the Agulhas bank which are renowned as the richest fishing area in the southern hemisphere. Take off your shoes and get a feel of the Table Mountain sandstones under your feet.

Cape Agulhas Lighthouse
Visit this lighthouse the second oldest working in South Africa situated in Cape Agulhas at the southernmost tip of Africa. The historic lighthouse was the third to be built and is operated bt Transnet National Ports Authority.

Get up close to this lighthouse and get a nice photo at this structure which consists of a round tower , 27 metres high and painted red with a white band. And at the top is a rotating optic that gives off one white flash every five seconds.

Shipwreck Museum
Visit this Shipwreck Museum the only one of its kind in the southern hemisphere. After opening its doors in the 1960s it was then proclaimed in 1075.

Learn about the 150 ships which were wrecked along the Cape's tumultuous coast made up of jutting rocks and unpredictable seas. Take a walk in this amazing museum with a collection of artefacts most of which are original. Small treasures and coins can be found dispersed between portholes, furniture, figureheads, anchors, canons , maps and more.

These shipwrecks represents various nationalities from Denmark, Portugal, France, United Kingdom, Japan, Netherlands, Taiwan, Germany and more.
